On Saturday, the PDC Unicorn Development Tour 2017 gets underway at Robin Park, Wigan in which the first four events will be played with some of the World’s best young players battling it out.
in 2016, Dean Reynolds topped the PDC Development Tour order of merit followed closely by Ross Twell who were both awarded PDC tour cards although Reynolds decided not to take his tour card as he wanted to do another year on the BDO circuit.
There is so much depth in talent in the Development Tour which is open to players aged 16-23 with some of the best in-form players on the main tour participating.
The likes of Max Hopp, Josh Payne, Ted Evetts, Dimitri van den Bergh, Mike de Decker, Adam Hunt, Jeffrey de Zwaan, Keegan Brown are players who have set the darting world alight over the last few years and they all battle it out in the Development Tour and the standard of Darts played is simply breath-taking.
A player who I am really looking forward to watching is the Dutch teenage sensation that is Justin van Tergouw.
Van Tergouw (pictured above) has competed in one PDC Development Tour event before which was the penultimate event in 2016 just before the World Youth Championship in which he managed to reach the final before losing out to an in-form Dean Reynolds 4-3.
The 16 year old from Utrecht who was crowned the World Youth Champion at Lakeside has been dubbed the new MVG, will be expected to have a good run of results in Wigan although it will not be easy with the array of tungsten talent that will be competing in the four events.
It will certainly be a superb four days of action in Wigan.
