Premier League Week 11 Round-up
LEWIS HITS PERFECT LEG AS TAYLOR EXTENDS LEAD IN BELFAST
Adrian Lewis found the first nine-dart finish in the Premier League since the 2012 campaign as he came from 5-4 down to beat James Wade in Belfast, giving his play-off hopes a further boost.
The two-time World Champion did infact lead 4-1 against ‘the Machine’, but he then missed three darts to establish a four leg advantage. From there, Wade found checkouts of 101 and 121 to get back into the game and edge in front.
Lewis responded in spectacular fashion. He hit a 180 and a 177, before emphatically hitting a 144 checkout on double 12 to achieve the perfect leg. After then going 6-5 up, Lewis sealed the win when he pinned double ten, however Wade almost snatched a point when he wired the bullseye for a 161.
Earlier in the evening, fellow play-off hopeful Peter Wright saw his chances dealt a blow in the opening match of the evening. After changing his darts yet again, ‘Snakebite’ was confidently beaten by Robert Thornton 7-2. ‘The Thorn’ played with freedom and averaged 105.61 in the win.
Thornton though couldn’t complete a double in Belfast as Raymond van Barneveld secured a 7-4 consolation victory against the Scot in the final match of the night. This came after Barney’s play-off hopes were all but dashed when he lost out 7-5 to Phil Taylor.
Taylor missed a brace of darts at double 16 for a 7-3 win, and van Barneveld pinned terrific 61 and 106 checkouts to take the game all the way. ‘The Power’ though secured another win in the 2016 Premier League when he landed double two.
Taylor’s lead at the top is now four points after he gained another point on Michael van Gerwen. This was because van Gerwen was held to just a point against World Champion Gary Anderson in a blockbuster encounter.
The match took a mere 16 minutes, as both the ‘Green Machine’ and ‘Flying Scotsman’ held six legs apiece. MvG recorded another impressive average (110.55) whilst Anderson was also playing fantastic darts- averaging 108.24.
