Lakeside 2016: Day 1 Roundup

BDO world number one Glen Durrant made it through to the last 16 with a 3-0 victory over youngster Dean Reynolds,   Durrant kicked off the game with a maximum, including a 12 darter to win the first set. the game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests, Reynolds scoring well just missed doubles at crucial times to win sets, but Durrant being the ruthless player he is took full advantage and booked his place in the last 16.

The three times ladies champion Anastasia Dobromyslova crashed out in the first round to the Dutch debutant Anca Zijlstra the russian had opportunities to win the match but missed crucial doubles to win and Zijlstra took her chance and knocked out the three times champion.

Another shock in round one as Dennis Harbour knocked out the seeded Darryl Fitton, not the best match in terms of standard but the match went all the way to a sudden death leg and Harbour took out tops to send Fitton home. 


Bolton’s Lisa Ashton booked her place in the second round with a 2-0 victory over Paula Jacklin hitting two 180s on her way to victory.

Last years Semi-finalist canadian Jeff Smith cruised into the last 16 with a routine 3-0 victory over Matthew Medhurst with a 92 average the highest of the day including a 130 finish to book his place in the last 16.

Jim Williams booked his place in the second round with an emphatic 3-0 win over three times finalist Tony O’Shea.
