Today i am joined by the BDO World Number One Glen Durrant who has had a truly magnificent last couple of weeks after he successfully defended his Winmau World Masters title and last weekend he defended his Finder Darts Masters title defeating Jamie Hughes 5-3 in the final.
It has been an amazing year for the BDO World number One even by his very high standards.
The Cleveland man has racked up ELEVEN tournament wins in 2016 already:
Winmau World Masters
Finder Darts Masters
BDO Gold Cup
European Darts Open
WDF Europe Cup Team
There has been a lot of talk about Durrant potentially moving over to the PDC, but Durrant in recent times as dismissed talks of a move across to the PDC as it seems he is very happy being the BDO number one but if he does win the big one in January he has won everything there is to win in the BDO…

Thanks for joining me Glen first of all i must congratulate you on successfully defending your World Masters and Finder Darts Masters titles that is some achievement as you became only the fifth person in history to win back-to-back World Masters titles along with the likes of Stephen Bunting and Bob Anderson, how are you feeling after these phenomenal wins ?
“I feel very happy and satisfied with the whole of 2016 (Unless you count the Waites loss at Lakeside). I continue to work hard at the game and once again being fairly selective on the competitions that I attended. World Masters at lakeside was the highlight and to retain the title is the icing on the cake “
You have a fantastic last two years as you have dominated the BDO its fair to say winning 21 titles in two years is extraordinary you must be full of confidence with the Lakeside world championships around the corner ?
“Form and seeding’s go out of the window when it comes to the Lakeside Worlds. You just have to look at Scott Waites who comes alive during the week. My confidence was high last year and look what happened. I am simply focusing on Nick Kenny and nothing more”
What has been your favourite moment this year ?
“For sure, retaining the World Masters at Lakeside with the moment checking out on 100 to win it”
You showed some great determination and bottle to retain you Finder Darts Masters title on Sunday you played your final game on the Saturday in the early hours of the morning how did you prepare yourself for such a long day on the Sunday to play at the standard you did ?
“I struggled to be perfectly honest with you, it was the graveyard slot that’s for certain and I didn’t react to the long day as well as I should have. I was there for the taking against Madars Razma but somehow I found some adrenalin and managed to get over the winning post“
You recently participated in the Grand Slam of Darts for the first time in your career mixing it with the ‘Big Boys’ which including you pushing Gary Anderson and RVB all the way how was the tournament for you ?
“It was superb. The players made me feel very welcome especially Peter Wright and Gary Anderson. I have stayed in touch with barney since the tournament. Great Crowd may I add“
You must get asked this question an awful lot but is a move to the PDC on the cards in January it’s obviously a huge decision but is it something you have given some thought ?
You had quite a lot of support this weekend from some of your local fans and friends did that help you get through the long day on Sunday ?
“I was ok on the Final Day and managed my time well. It was the Saturday I found difficult. Winning games helps the body. Monday Morning was a little brutal however”
You have really pushed on in the last three years since becoming the world number one, is there any particular reason or something you’ve done differently to improve your game as you rised to the top of the BDO ranks ?
“Hard work and determination plus working hard on the mental side of the game. Consistency and Repetition has been the key“
A lot of the BDO events around Europe are all short format do you prefer leg play or set play in tournaments ?
“I prefer sets if I am honest”
It is well known that you use a sports psychologist, please tell me how this helps you maintain a level head and stay calm and composed whilst under pressure on the big stage ?
“Contact Stephen McKibben for this answer, i wont divulge all the secrets, but agree he’s been an amazing support to me“
What do you do to relax before a game ? Any special preparations ?
“Lay on the bed. Listen to music. Catch up with my Social media. Make sure I have a big breakfast. But love going for a walk to clear my head”
Did you receive any tips or advise from the PDC boys whilst at the Grand Slam of Darts ?
“Yes, they were very supportive“
Thanks for your time Glen, and I wish you all the best at Lakeside….
