Exclusive Benito Van De Pas Interview
Today i am interviewing young Dutch darting sensation that is Benito Van De Pas,who is taking the PDC by storm he is currently top of the Youth Tour order of merit and sat in the Top 32 of the PDC order of merit (30th),earlier this year he reached 3 PDC finals in one week a youth tour event which he won and one runners up position in the youth tour and reached the final of the International darts open in Reisa losing out to Michael Smith beating MvG along the way ending the world number ones unbeaten streak in 2015,he had a fantastic World Championships earlier in the year reaching the Last 16 after beating Paul Nicholson and Dave Chisnall losing out in the end to Robert Thornton.
Benito at the weekend won The Hemeco Open in Holland…..
TS: Thanks for joining me Benito,first of all congratulations on your win at the weekend in the Hemeco Open,are you feeling good with your darts at the moment?
BvdP: “Hello Tom, thank you it’s always nice to win a tournament especially after my holiday in Mexico. I only had practise for 2 days and I managed to win the Hemeco Open. It gives me a lot of confident and the drive to practise more the next few weeks”
TS: You have had a great 2015 so far Top of the PDC youth order of merit,Last 16 in the World Championships, what are your targets for the rest of this year?
BvdP: “My targets for the rest of the year are to play good on television and hopefully I will reach the top 24 in the Order of Merit. At the moment I am number 30 in the world”
TS: Michael Van Gerwen has helped you a lot since you moved over to the PDC how has he helped you and are you settling in to the PDC now?
BvdP: “Yes MvG helped me with a lot of things like Tax. We have the same accountant and also the same sponsor XQmax Darts. I feeling great at the PDC and playing really well I am still young and enjoying everything”
TS: What is the best advice anyone had ever given you?
BvdP: “Stay relaxed and practise a lot”
TS: Who is your biggest inspiration in Darts?
BvdP: “MvG & RvB because when I was young both guys played a lot on Dutch television”
TS: How often do you practise a day and what do you work on in practise?
BvdP: “At the moment i am practising 3/4 hours a day because I want to play well when the PDC starts in September. I like to practise on my doubles because you can lose and win matches on doubles”
TS: Do you come from a darting family?
BvdP: “Yes I think I am from a darting family because we watched it a lot when I was a young kid and my dad played a lot of darts with his friends on his holiday, After he won a Trophy its inspired me to play darts”
TS: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
BvdP: “I hope to be in top 16 in 3 years and maybe top 8 in 5 years”
TS: What do you like to do away from the dartboard? Any other sports?
BvdP: “Away from the dartboard i like to play on my PlayStation4 and to watch football”
TS: With the PDC starting again this month are you feeling confident?
Bvdp: “Yes I am feeling really confident at the moment. I moved into my apartment a few days ago and have a really nice practise room there”
